Third Molar Extraction Solution

What Is Wisdom Teeth Removal?

Wisdom teeth removal involves surgically extracting the third molars, typically during the teenage years or early twenties before complications develop. Most people don’t have adequate space for these teeth, leading to impaction and various problems. Wisdom teeth often become impacted because modern jaws are typically too small to accommodate all 32 teeth. At Northwest Oral Surgeons in Schererville, we use advanced imaging and gentle surgical techniques to remove wisdom teeth safely and comfortably.

Life Changing Problem Prevention

Benefits of Wisdom Teeth Removal

Ideal Removal Candidates

Who Is Wisdom Teeth Removal For?

Most people benefit from wisdom teeth removal, as few have adequate space for these teeth to function properly. You’re an ideal candidate if your wisdom teeth are causing problems or likely to cause issues.

Teenagers and Young Adults

If you’re between 16-25 years old, your wisdom teeth are likely developing or erupting, and early removal prevents problems while ensuring easier surgery and faster recovery.

People with Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Your wisdom teeth don’t have adequate space to erupt properly, causing impaction that leads to pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth.

Those Experiencing Wisdom Tooth Problems

You’re having pain, swelling, infections, or difficulty cleaning around your wisdom teeth, indicating they’re causing problems that will likely worsen over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wisdom Teeth Removal FAQs

We understand you have concerns about wisdom teeth surgery and what to expect. These are the most common questions our patients ask when considering wisdom teeth removal.

When is the best time to remove wisdom teeth?

The ideal time is typically between ages 16-25 when roots aren’t fully developed and recovery is faster. However, problematic wisdom teeth should be removed at any age to prevent complications. Early removal is generally easier and more comfortable.
Not necessarily. Wisdom teeth that have adequate space, erupt properly, and can be cleaned effectively may not need removal. However, most people don’t have sufficient space, making removal the best option to prevent future problems.
We offer several options including local anesthesia, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and IV sedation. The choice depends on the complexity of your case and your comfort preferences. We’ll discuss the best option for your situation.
The procedure itself is painless thanks to anesthesia. Post-operative discomfort varies but is typically manageable with prescribed pain medication. Most patients find recovery easier than expected, especially when following our aftercare instructions.
Most patients feel significantly better within 3-5 days and return to normal activities within a week. Complete healing of the extraction sites takes several weeks, but you’ll be comfortable and functional much sooner.
Start with soft foods like smoothies, yogurt, and soup for the first few days, gradually returning to normal foods as comfort allows. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods initially, and don’t use straws which can disrupt healing.
Many patients take 1-2 days off to rest, but some return to light activities the next day. Avoid strenuous physical activity for several days. We’ll provide specific guidelines based on your procedure and healing progress.
Complications are uncommon but can include dry socket, infection, or temporary numbness. When performed by experienced oral surgeons using proper techniques, the risk of complications is very low and manageable.
Costs vary based on the complexity of removal and anesthesia options chosen. Many dental insurance plans cover wisdom teeth removal. We’ll provide detailed cost estimates and help you understand your insurance benefits.
Dry socket occurs when the blood clot in the extraction site is lost prematurely, causing pain. It’s prevented by following aftercare instructions, avoiding smoking, not using straws, and maintaining gentle oral hygiene as directed.

  • Wish I could give ten stars!! I had a horrid abscess tooth that broke into my sinuses. I drove and hour and a half to go here. No one where I live, Lafayette Indiana, could get me in. Some places I wouldn’t be able to get in until January! And my own dentist was being a jerk. So my mom recommended Northwest cause they helped my grandma. I had a consult and they fit me in next day. The offices were beautiful, clean, smelled nice and the ladies were exceptional! Very kind and knowledgeable! Dr.Mekhail was beyond fabulous! My face is barely swollen and he had to put me out of this. No bruising either! He was kind and knew his job! Thank you all for being so kind !! Will definitely recommend you!! And they called the next day to see how I was !! Awesome place !!
