Meet Dr. Sherif Mekhail

Dr. Sherif Mekhail brings over 13 years of board-certified expertise in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to Northwest Oral Surgeons. After earning his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 2002, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honors fraternity, Dr. Mekhail completed his four-year specialty training at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2006. He subsequently served as Assistant Professor in the department, teaching and supervising both residents and dental students while advancing his clinical skills.


Dr. Mekhail practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with clinical interests including office anesthesia for wisdom teeth and dental extractions, biopsy of oral lesions, dental implants, and reconstructive surgery with bone grafts. His hospital privileges at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Munster enable him to provide comprehensive care for patients with facial trauma or those requiring major oral surgeries. Dr. Mekhail has participated in humanitarian missions to Mexico, performing surgical corrections of cleft lip and palate, demonstrating his commitment to using his skills for community benefit.


Board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Mekhail maintains certifications in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is known for his compassionate approach, gentle touch, and patience in patient care. Dr. Mekhail is an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Society, and the Northwest Indiana Dental Society. He resides in Chicago with his wife Marian and their three children, and enjoys swimming and playing squash in his free time.
