Sherif Mekhail, DDS, MSBS
Dr. Sherif Mekhail is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon who has been practicing for over 13 years. He received his dental education and degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 2002 where he was also awarded the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honors fraternity. Afterwards he started his four years specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and he finished the program in 2006. He was then appointed Assistant Professor in the department. His duties included teaching and supervising Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents along with the dental students. .
Dr. Mekhail participated in humanitarian missions in Mexico for surgical correction of cleft lip and palate. He joined Northwest Oral Surgeons in 2008.
Dr. Mekhail has a Masters degree in Oral Biology from the Medical University of Ohio. He is certified in Basic Life Support and advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is a member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Society and the Northwest Indiana Dental Society.
Dr. Mekhail is on staff at St. Margaret’s hospital in Munster Indiana where he provides care for patients with facial trauma or major oral surgeries. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Dr. Mekhail practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. He performs jaw correction orthognathic surgery and TMJ arthrocentesis. His clinical interests includes office anesthesia for wisdom teeth and dental extractions, biopsy of oral lesions, dental implants and reconstructive surgery with bone grafts.
Dr. Mekhail is compassionate, with a gentle touch and patience when taking care of patients. For recreation Dr. Mekhail enjoys swimming and playing squash. He resides in Chicago with his wife Marian and there three children.
